Youth & Family Ministries

Youth Ministry Updates!

The Youth Ministry here at Unity Spiritual Center of Portland is getting ready to
re-open. Plans are being made and we are looking forward to seeing our youth
back together at the 10:00 am Sunday Service time. To start the process, we are
inviting each age group on a specific Sunday to Meet and Greet each other with Barbara, and the teachers.

Here is the plan:

10:00 am
Sunday, May 16 – All preschoolers
Sunday, May 23 – Kindergarten and 1st graders
Sunday, May 30 – 2nd and 3rd graders
Sunday, June 6 – 4th and 5th graders

Sunday, June 13 – Save the Date for Family Fun Sunday.

This is the day that we welcome everyone to come back together and kick off our Grand Re-opening!  The Uniteens and YOU have been meeting in many different ways throughout this past year. We welcome them back and look forward to having all of our community together again.

Many of the children and teens have graduated and moved up to a new group since we last met. We welcome them and look forward to seeing how they have grown and changed. We will have most activities outside, as the weather permits, parents and family are invited to attend church, as we have room in the sanctuary.

If you would like to stay with your child, we welcome that choice.

Our mission is not to entertain the children but to call them out… To be ‘called out’ is to follow the harmonious law of the soul’s unfoldment.” ~ Myrtle Filmore

Uni-Tots

These are our youngest beings; 3 months to 3 years of age. Our loving volunteers provide a safe, positive, and encouraging environment to support their spiritual development by story reading and developmental play.

Uni-Kids

Children from preschool age through 5th grade begin their morning with our “Celebration Time” gathering. During The first 20 minutes, we greet each other, share a personal story from the past week, learn to pray as a group, meditate, enjoy music, and learn what our lesson is for the day. We then break up into our age-appropriate groups.

Preschool
Our children are invited to explore spiritual principles, through stories and developmental play and they learn to recognize what a spiritual principle is in their everyday life.

K – 1st grade, 2nd – 3rd grade, 4th – 5th grade
In these groups we encourage each child to journey within to discover their own personal spirituality through discussion, sharing personal experiences, storytelling, and creative expression.

UNi-Teens

These are our middle school teens, 6th grade to 8th grade. This group explores spiritual truths in a safe, fun, age appropriate environment. They can connect with other young teens to explore and discuss their spirituality. They learn to incorporate the Truth teachings and metaphysics into their daily lives and are encouraged to participate in lock-ins and regional retreats, as well as community service projects and fundraisers.

YOU (Youth of Unity)

The YOU group, our high school teens 9th grade to 12th grade. In this group our focus is to develop leadership skills and encourage teens to take an active role in the classroom experience. Sunday morning gatherings are student led and adult guided. This age group uses their understanding of the Truth principles to discuss and look deeper into the issues and concerns that they encounter each day. This is a highly active ministry. They support one another and enjoy many opportunities to explore their spirituality through social outings, social service projects and other events. Opportunities to attend sub-regional events, regional retreats and rallies are part of this busy group.

Our Sunday morning experience is an incredible opportunity for children and teens to explore and nurture the spiritual aspects of their lives; a place where children and teens are honored and loved!
